Mr. Lee is the senior partner in the Architecture
firm of Lee & Astwood Architects Ltd., which began business
operations in May of 2004 as a Turks & Caicos Islands professional
services company. Mr. Lee was educated at the DalTech school of
Architecture in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he received a Bachelor of
Environmental Design (1975) and Bachelor of Architecture (1978)
degrees. This education was undertaken following his tenure at the
University of Wisconsin where he successfully completed a joint degree
in Psychology and Environmental Design in 1973.
After graduation Mr. Lee began his professional career in the United States in the state of Wisconsin receiving his Professional Registration in that state in 1981. Following this period Mr. Lee moved to Bermuda where he worked for three years as a Project Architect with the firm Cooper & Gardner. He was engaged mostly in the Hotel and Resort industry while in Bermuda, completing a number of projects including a major expansion and refurbishment project for the Sonesta Beach Hotel, the design development of the St. Georges Club, and an expansion and refurbishment of the Mid Ocean Club.
Moving to the Turks & Caicos Islands from Bermuda in 1982, Mr. Lee has completed numerous residential, commercial, and condominium projects most notably the Royal West Indies Resort. His experience includes acting as project Architect from 1985 - 1987 in the original design of the then Sheraton Hotel that is now the Beaches Hotel, and acted as Project Site Architect (under sub contract to the firm Rothermel Cooke) for the Parrot Cay Resort.
In the short time since establishing the company, Mr. Lee and Mr. Astwood have developed one of the leading firms in the Turks & Caicos Islands gaining significant market share while growing the employee base rapidly and adding an Interior Design department. The firm now comprises two Senior Architects; two project Architects, a Director of Interior Design, and a technical document development department.
Lee & Astwood Architects Ltd. has a mandate to develop business both within the TCI and throughout the Caribbean, focusing on high end Residential, Condominium Hotel and Resort industry, and Government and commercial projects. The firm is currently engaged in some fifteen projects that include Residential, Commercial and Hotel Condominium projects, the design and engineering of the new South Caicos Air Terminal Building, and a major Fractional Ownership project in Grand Cayman.
Mr. Lee is a member of the Turks & Caicos Society of Architects, Surveyors and Engineers (TCASE), the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and holds a certificate from the US National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)
